There is always a question in my inquestive mind that is, "are my students learning in standreds?" Adding to the previous one another one comes in my mind, "am I able to provide them the fullest as they require?" "Am I able to make the lessons so that my students learn their best?"
As an IB PYP educator what I cherish most is the process of inquiry. The students learn the way they feel confident enough to share and think out of the box. When I teach in the class and the students tanswers and share their understanding, I try to take that as a part of the learning objectives. However, the main focus of my teaching is to make the better understand the process of inquiry, content will uncover itself along the way. The embrace the process, we need to understand the scientific practices as well. I belive, the students need to take the knowledge in a way so that his helped alleviate some of our worries. Questions like “can my students make a claim and justify it with evidence?” and “can they evaluate data to look for patterns?” have replaced questions about content coverage.
Some of the traditional teachers around the world in different curriculum are still not aware of inquiry based teaching and learning. Nevertheless, I still think that on and off we teachers are trying to make our students inquirer and the teachers who really are not in practice they can break their leg and go for it!!1
When I instruct my students in the class for any inquiry, I input my ideas and let them think about that. I also work as an inquirer and try to lead their inquiry in a correct way. We have different levels of students in a classroom and applying pair work, group work help a lot to make them comfortable in their learning. In IB, students agency is important and we put emphasis on that so I also through the choice to the students so that they can feel comfortable enough. Honestly not always it can be possible for every inquiry concept but as an educator teachers can think about it. Teachers also need to be conscious about giving differentiate instructions in the class.
When students learn through inquiry sometimes they go so in-depth that it wonders me! It makes me think to change the planner and also share the experience with the global community.
As a Bangladeshi, now I am thinking to share some of my teaching strategies with the teachers who teaches national curriculum in our country. According to me our children are genius and most of the cases they are not getting the right guidance. In our curriculum, whatever contents teachers are teaching they can teach and students can also learn through the inquiry based teaching and learning. Its my own choice to embrace this with everyone and make our learners confident.
