Dear educators,

I am sharing "The Cycle of Critical Thinking" by Justin Wright, a valuable visual guide to fostering deeper thinking in our students. This model breaks down critical thinking into five interconnected stages:

Gather Evidence: Emphasizes verifying information, understanding its source, and checking facts.

Challenge Assumptions: Encourages questioning what seems obvious, identifying biases, and testing underlying beliefs.

Explore Perspectives: Promotes viewing issues from multiple angles, understanding different viewpoints, and considering who might be impacted.

Generate Alternatives: Focuses on creative problem-solving by thinking "outside the box" and exploring various solutions.

Map Implications: Guides students to consider potential future effects, anticipate ripples, and understand the consequences of actions.

This cycle isn't linear but iterative, meaning students can move back and forth between stages as they refine their understanding. Integrating these stages into our lesson planning and classroom discussions can empower students to analyze information more effectively, make well-reasoned decisions, and develop a more nuanced understanding of complex topics.

Let's use this framework to continually enhance critical thinking skills across all subjects and grade levels.
