Thinking of becoming an IB PYP teacher.. what to know?

To become an IB PYP educator, teachers must first be an inquirer. The reason is that a teacher needs to know what to teach and how to teach the inquiry-based along with the concept-based curriculum. It is not done traditionally and nowadays the teaching approaches and styles have changed.

If a teacher first read about the curriculum and then explore different ways to learn about the curriculum it will be helpful for the teachers to understand the approaches.

Another important point for the new teachers works best is to observe other teachers classes. It helps a lot to observe an understand the ways to get involved with the learners. Of course, professional development is must but when we learn by observing others it works best. Teachers should be an inquirer. ask lots of questions to themselves as it will help them to mentor the kids to bring out the best from individuals. Asking questions is a great trait and if a teacher asks correct questions to themselves and the learners it is possible to get the output of their understanding.

Teachers also requires the guidelines from the leadership team. PYPC can help the teachers to provide them positive and time efficient strategies. A PYPC can provide the guideline to make a strong team in the faculty.

An IB teacher needs to think and explore to teach concept based approach as well. At present, students should understand the concept they are learning. It is not memorizing or doing tasks like blindfolded. They need to understand the concept to apply that in real-life situation.

Students need to connect their learning with the real life. To become a life long learners students should know how to think, should get the guidance of what to think and how to apply their thinking. The learning should be focused on local and global contents. Teachers collaborative working approaches will help the team and the learners to explore the learning journey.
